After a resale purchase, buyers remember the society transfer and the electricity bill. The piped gas connection is often forgotten. Here is how to move a Mahanagar Gas (MGL) connection into your name.

Who can apply

The new owner.
A legal heir, with proof of inheritance.
A tenant, with a valid rental agreement and an NOC from the owner.

The gas bill in the old owner's name is a small thing until the deposit or a dispute comes up.

Documents

Proof of ownership: registered sale deed or agreement, gift deed, or will or succession certificate.
The latest MGL bill.
ID and address proof of the new owner.
An NOC from the previous owner.
The filled MGL name change form.

How to apply and timing

MGL has mainly accepted name change applications at its customer care centres. Expect around 15 working days if the papers are in order.

Tips

Collect the previous owner's NOC at the time of sale. It is much harder to get later.
Ask about the security deposit on the connection.
Do the electricity bill at the same time. See changing the electricity bill name.
