Housing societies can get central assistance of Rs 18,000 per kW for rooftop solar for common facilities, including EV charging, up to 500 kW. How it works.

Lifts, pumps, corridor lights and security cabins run up a large common electricity bill in any Mumbai society. Rooftop solar can cut it, and there's central support for societies.
| Who | Central financial assistance |
|---|---|
| Individual homes | Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, Rs 18,000 per kW for the third kW; capped at Rs 78,000 for systems above 3 kW |
| Group housing societies and resident welfare associations | Rs 18,000 per kW for common facilities, including EV charging, up to 500 kW (at 3 kW per house) |
The 500 kW limit includes rooftop plants that individual residents install within the society.
Common-area electricity is part of every member's maintenance bill. Cutting it helps owners and tenants alike.
Lower common electricity can mean lower maintenance over time. If your society adds EV charging under the same project, that's a plus for tenants with electric cars.
